Storm chaos

Posted by Visiter Newsdesk on January 19, 2007 5:50 PM |

Thursday's freak weather conditions blew any plans we had for this week's paper out of the window.
The newsdesk phones were hot from Visiter readers calling in with their news about the storms.
Our team of reporters took to the streets to see for themselves the havoc the weather was causing, which included damaging buildings, blowing down trees and even overturning a high-sided vehicle. Visiter photographer Gareth Jones braved the elements to bring you the best pictures in town.
Our forum on the uncertain future of Kingswood College was one of the most popular features on the Southport Visiter's website over the past week, so it was satisfying to exclusively report that the school has been given a reprieve to allow parent investors more time to find a new site. You can add your thoughts on the story by simply joining the forum on this site.
The Southport Visiter also exclusively revealed this week that a new buyer has stepped in to take over control of Southport Market. Traders are obviously concerned about the future of the market, but only time will tell what plans new operators Geraud have for the site. Again, you can have your say on what improvements, if any, you think should be made to the market on our forum.
As ever, the Visiter is packed full of all the latest news, views and what's going on in your area.
Let us know what you think, and if you have any news you would like to share with us, just contact the newsdesk.
